Basic features of a Jail Management Software

Advancement in technology has reshaped every aspect of our lives – from the style of communication with our loved ones to our security and prison system.

Successfully running a prison can be difficult, given the number of dangerous individuals housed in a prison and the general possibilities of violence erupting between prisoners and the police or among themselves. An effective inmate management system is therefore necessary to operate a prison, not just for the safety of the security officers, but for the inmates especially in the event of an escape, riot or fire outbreak.

Today, there are many jail management software available in the market. These software solutions offer a combination of features to control inmates and deal with management of their data, making it easy and more accessible. Some of the functions of jail management software are; classifying inmates in the prison database, recording inmate’s visitations and keeping track of security guards’ and inmates’ movement across the entire facility.

Prime functions of jail management software are:

   · Documentation – This is an extremely crucial part of running any institution, especially a prison where information is regularly needed for vital decisions about inmates and their activities. Jail management software collect, categorize and presents information about each inmate in an ordered manner, i.e. graphs – making it easy for analysis. Most of this documentation happens automatically. With effective inmate management systems such as this, inmates can be judged fairly based on an accurate record of their activities in prison.

   ·  Tracking Movement – Another important role of jail management software is tracking the location and movement of prison officers and inmates. In the past, when riots and collisions between prison officers and inmates were rampant, such a technology would have proved invaluable. This feature of jail management software guarantees a level of protection for everyone within the facility as security officers in the control room can effectively track the movement of each inmate and officer.

   · Co-ordination – Anyone with a fair idea of the size and population of most prison understands the need for co-ordination. With so many different officers, it is almost inevitable that records would be misplaced or become hidden in a pile of other information. With jail management software, prison officers are able to co-ordinate each other’s function to complement the other and this increases the efficiency of the facility.

  · General Efficiency – With such a stable communication network established, prison officers are able to control the inmates, resolve conflicts among them with better judgment and easily identify each inmate. These go a long way to establish order in prison and ensure the safety and security in the facility.
